Grafting Roses of Different Colors: A Step-by-Step Guide for Shrub Lovers

  • Timing: Perform grafting in summer when roses are healthy and sap flows vigorously.
  • Sanitize Tools: Clean knife/pruning shears with rubbing alcohol to prevent disease spread.
  • Collect Cuttings: Get stem cuttings with three buds. Carve a “V” shape at the bottom.
  • Select Rootstock: Choose a biennial stem from the rootstock rose plant. Make a centimeter-deep cut in the stem.
  • Insert Graft: Insert the “V” shaped graft into the rootstock’s cut. Wrap tightly with grafting tape.

Post-Transplant Care:

  • Water abundantly for 15 days, ensuring soil remains moist.
  • Prune first shoots until plant stabilizes.
  • Remove grafting tape when graft grows independently.
  • Provide suitable soil mix and compost substrate.
  • Ensure ample space, airflow, and sunlight for thriving roses.
