Choose the Right Chayote:

Pick a mature chayote fruit with a sprout for planting.

Select a Container:

Use a pot at least 18-24 inches wide and 20 inches deep with drainage holes.

Prepare the Soil:

Mix 50% potting soil, 30% compost, and 20% perlite or sand for drainage.

Place the fruit horizontally in the soil with the sprout exposed. Water thoroughly.

Support the Vine:

Install a trellis or place near a wall or fence for the vine to climb.

Place the container where the plant will get 6-8 hours of sunlight. Bring indoors if temperatures drop below 55°F.

Watering and Fertilizing:

Keep soil moist and fertilize once a month during the growing season.

Pruning:

Trim excess growth and prune tips to encourage side shoots.

Pest Management:

Use a mild soap or neem oil spray for pest control and ensure good air circulation.
