  • Water
  • Toothpicks

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Prepare the Plastic Bottles:

  • Clean the bottles thoroughly.
  • Cut off the top third of the bottle.
  • Invert the top third into the bottom part to act as a support.

Prepare the Garlic Cloves:

Select large, healthy garlic cloves.
Peel off the outer skin, keeping the base plate intact.

Set Up the Hydroponic System:

  • Place a cotton ball or sponge piece at the mouth of the inverted bottle top.
  • Fill the bottom part with water until it touches the cotton ball or sponge.

Plant the Garlic Cloves:

  • Position the garlic clove with the pointed end up and the base plate down.
  • Use toothpicks to stabilize the clove if needed.

Provide Proper Lighting:

  • Place the bottle in a sunny spot with 6-8 hours of light daily.
  • Use a grow light if natural light is insufficient.

Maintain the System:

  • Change the water weekly.
  • Keep the water level consistent.

Watch for Growth:

  • Roots should form within a week.
  • Green shoots will emerge and can be used like chives.
  • Continue providing light and fresh water.

Harvesting:

  • Harvest leaves as they grow or wait several months for bulb development.
  • Once leaves yellow and die back, harvest the garlic.
