Wooden planks (treated or reclaimed wood).
Cinder blocks, concrete blocks, or pavers for support.
Optional: Screws, brackets, a saw, and a level.
- Prepare the Base
Lay down a weed barrier (landscape fabric or cardboard).
Position cinder blocks in pairs, 3–4 feet apart, and ensure they are level.
- Assemble the Bench Top
Cut planks to desired length (4–6 feet).
Lay planks across the blocks with equal overhang.
Optional: Secure planks with screws or brackets for stability.
- Stabilize the Bench
Add weight (stones or extra blocks) to secure the base.
Test for wobbling and adjust as needed.
- Finish and Customize
Sand the wood and apply a weather-resistant sealant.
Add cushions, a backrest, or decorations like planters.
Tips:
Use rot-resistant wood like cedar or teak.
Avoid sloped areas to prevent instability.
For portability, don’t secure the planks permanently.
